The last blog ❤

Finally! It’s the last blog, I’m happy because it means that the semester will end soon and I need that vacation. At first I didn’t like it, because I’m not good writing blog, it’s difficult for me to order my ideas and put them in a text, but I must admit that it has helped me in my writing skills, now it’s easier to write than at the beginning , and my vocabulary is more extensive. It was also fun reading the blogs of my fellow, it’s an interesting way to get to know them all, in English II I didn’t talk too much with my partners and it may sound strange, but I think I met more people this semester, although I have never spoken to any of them personally ٩(˘˘

I would like us to continue doing this in the future, I think it could improve my writing, and write blogs is an efficient and fun way to do it. There is nothing in particular that I would like to write, I like that the topics are quite varied

This is the end!! It was quite nice to take English III with you. Take care and stay home!

Free time

In the last days I haven’t had too much free time, between jobs and tests for which I must study, I have been quite busy. But we always have a time when we want to rest and relax. Normally I like to read, when I start a book I can't stop, that's why I don't do it right now, it distracts me a lot and I don't do my homework jahsja my favorite so far has been “Into the water” by paula Hawkins, I highly recommend it, a book that you should definitely read, I liked that I couldn't predict the end, it was shocking.

Another of my hobbies is to watch series, at the moment I'm watching with my mother "The good doctor", it’s funny and it’s always nice to watch series of doctors, it’s interesting and you learn a lot about diseases, I also usually see "Emergency rooms: unpublished stories" with my cousin. Yes, the series of doctors are great.

Another one of my hobbies is painting, I used to paint with oil in my free time, but I can't do it anymore! (╥︣﹏᷅╥) I don't have enough paints left, and my brushes are quite old, I haven't had a chance to buy more. It's a little sad because paint relax me a lot, now I have to deal with my stress alone.

Cellular physiology

My favorite subject is definitely cellular physiology, I really liked the modality they adopted this semester, in the first half we reviewed all the topics and in this second half we did the seminars, controls and tests. In the beginnig I thought it would be more difficult this subject, because I would forget everything I learned and my evaluations would accumulate. However, this wasn’t the case, and I had the time to study and learn at my own pace. I have quite enjoyed the content of the classes: cell communication, membrane transporters, biological receptors and sensors, membrane potential and some other similar topics.

I like this subject mainly because it helps me understand biological processes and how everything is related to each other, how things happen and why. It’s fun when we’re asked to analyze hypothetical situations to know what would happen if an element within the system is modified or fails.

Tito Ureta

Option 2:

Tito Ureta was born in Iquique, 1935. He was one of the main promoters, diffusers and initiators of experimental Biochemistry in Chile. His first profession was medicine, however, over the years focused on his work in research and experimental work. In 1960 he joined a group with Dr. Hermann Niemeyer, with whom he carried out his thesis on the purification and characterization of the enzyme responsible for glucose phosphorylation in mammalian liver. Throughout his career he described 4 hexokinase isoenzymes and investigated in the field of metabolic regulation in vivo. Later he was president of the Society of Biology (1977 - 1978) and the Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Chile (1983-1984). He worked in our faculty until he passed away.

I admire him mainly because I feel that he did incredible things in a country where science isn’t a priority. In his time biochemistry practically didn’t exist in Chile, and without he perhaps science in our country would not be as we know it today. Tito Ureta makes me feel that I can achieve great things, He drives me to continue studying every time I’m about to give up because I don’t understand my subjects, it’s a great motivator for me.

One of the reasons I entered to study biochemistry was mainly to work in a laboratory, which in these moments of quarantine it’s what I miss the most. I wasn’t the best, because I am very clumsy, I threw away the solutions and I had to prepare them again (once I threw the beaker 3 times!), One day I almost dropped a burette, my heart stopped hahsjaha. In other occasion I opened the faucet too much and couldn’t close it, as it’s like a hose, the water splashed everywhere and I was soaked, the teacher laughed a lot at me before going to help me, the only good thing is that it was a hot day.

Laboratory was the best of my week, despite how tiring it was, because we were there for about 4 hours, I really enjoyed it. Also every Monday on the way to the subway station, I saw at the doctor Simi dancing, which only gave my life more happy. Those little things are what I miss being locked up for so long time.

A Snow Day

This photo is of my vacation of last year, I couldn’t find one in which we all went out, but we were 14 in total, among my cousins, uncles, aunts, my grandfather, parents and my brother. It was a long travel, with much snacks and music, these day in particular we went to “Laguna Del Maule” that is near to border with Argentina.

After a long and bloody snowball war, we went to look for something with what we could slide us, like a makeshift sled. We found two trays in my uncle's car (why my uncle had a tray in his car, never I will know). When it was my turn to slide, I couldn’t to stop, everybody shout me that I had to brake with my feet and bury them in the snow, but it didn’t work! I was in panic completely, because in the end there wasn’t snow, just a descent full of rock, that it was very useful to climb, but definitely painful in a fall.  I was getting closer to my end when my mother launched over me! It did hurt me, but it was better than falling into a ditch hahahsha everything happened so fast that all I did was laugh.

That was one of the best vacation that I had had, I met many new places, and the most important thing is that I was with my family

My dogs love the quarantine

All day, every day on TV I can only hear about quarantine, and the coronavirus, so it's the only thing I can think for this blog. I believe that we’re all stressed out with this situation, or well, almost everyone, my dogs definitely not.

They love that my family and I are at home, they've become more and more loving, even the biggest, who would growl at me if I hugged her too much, She comes and asks me for caresses of her own will!

None of them like to go to walk, so they aren’t stressed for can’t go out, they just enjoy a quiet home life, they only eat and sleep, and I'm a little jealous that they don’t have online classes jahsjaha

This is Milka, while I suffer for the A1 of statistic

Today the government food box arrived, Gomita was the happiest, she was desperately looking for her lamb strips, she was very disappointed when she didn’t find them

My favourite piece of technology

I think that, more than my favourite piece of technology; it’s the one that I use most of the time, my cellphone. I got it in October the last year, for my birthday. My old phone was stolen in September, be careful at Estación Central hahaha T-T

I use it for everythings, since the morning, my cell wake me up. I can chat with my friends and play online with them. It have very much memory, so I have photo-shoots with my puppies sometimes <3
Since the last months, I use it every days, all day, for the online class, I need be connect to study and do my homework. In my free time, I listen to music, are my moments of relaxation.

I like it because it’s small and I can take it with me ever, the cellphone is multiuse and everythings I need is there. The world won’t go to end because I haven’t my phone, but the life would be more difficult and stressful, especially in these days of quarantine.

Why I chose this career

When I was a child, I wanted be a teacher. My parents are teacher, I suppose that I wanted be like both. Also, the teacher have a long vacations, it’s a important factor Haha. As long as I was growing up, I discovered that I haven’t the patience for this job.

When I finished my secondary education, I had three career options: veterinary, marine biology and biochemistry. At the end, I chose biochemistry. Although I wasn’t sure at beginning, after my first semester here, I loved my career (Even though I don’t understand the most subject hahaha *crying*). In this faculty I met wonderful people; they helped me cope with this suffering called university life.
In the future, I would like work in a clinical laboratory, that was the reason to that I chose biochemistry in the first place

Welcome to my life

Hello!

My name is Monserrat Videla Bravo. I was born on 27 of October at 2000, in San Bernardo. My mother tell me that I was a consequence of Valentine's day, her blessing  hajajsd

I studied at Saint Mary College, it was a small but homely school, I met good friends there. Actually, I'm studying biochemistry at Universidad de Chile, this is my second year in the university.

I have a brother and three sisters, I'm the oldest. My brother, Esteban's 13 years old, he is tall, the tallest in the family! We all call him "Enano" for that reason. My littles sisters are very sleepy, they sleep almost all day.

She is Sofi, a little grumpy

Her name is Milka, she loves her stuffed animals, her favorite is Rito

And the younger, Gomita. She loves to dress up, Goma thinks she's a princess.
She also likes to help me do my homework

I usually paint in oils in my free time, that and watch soap operas with my mom. We're still waiting for the end of "Verdades ocultas".
